My upstander Caroline Anderson
My upstander has helped my community in many ways. She is a PTA president for her son's school, which means she helps raise money for the school. She was the president and director for La Canada Flintridge educational foundation for six years and raised over 12 million dollars for La Canada schools. She helped the La Canada Chinese club pass out over 20,000 masks to seniors, hospitals, and doctor offices. She is now on the School Board and she sets goals for the the schools in my community. She is the first Asian women to be on the Board. Caroline Anderson is an upstander because she does philanthropy work voluntarily.
Her favorite philanthropy work she has done this year was passing out masks in April. She really enjoyed doing this because she liked seeing people who received the masks happy and she got to uses a long barbeque stick to help pass them out to seniors, doctor offices, and hospitals.
Her first philanthropy work that she did was when she was a teenager and she helped put together care packages for people that are less fortunate. She enjoyed putting together the packages, and which stated her philanthropy work and helping others.
"I do philanthropy work and help other people because I realize how lucky I am and I want to help people that are not as fortunate as me." - Caroline Anderson
My exhibit
Below is my exhibit, it represents a bell bringing people together. Caroline Anderson brings people together and tries to connect people while bringing people together. That is why there is a bell inside a bell. The string on top is purple/pink that represents a women, because Caroline Anderson is the first Asian women to be on the school board. The base of the bell is a flower pot because she is the PTA president for her son's school and she is now on the school board. Both of those jobs are to make decisions and help the school district and public schools. I also know the saying, teacher plant the seeds for students, and the flower pot holds the seeds to help students grow and learn. She is the flower pot by being able to create opportunities and be the base for teachers to plant the seeds. Inside the flower pot, holding the bell, the is a yellow string representing happiness and her optimism. When I was on the Zoom meeting with her, she was really happy and energetic. The yellow string is holding the bell inside the bell because she said you have to have a positive mood to help people.

How I will incorporate the lessons I learned into my every-day life
I will incorporate the lessons I learned into my every-day life by standing up for someone instead of waiting for someone to do it themselves. If we will all wait, then if someone is in trouble and needs someone's help, the person will not get the help they need. I also learned to be more grateful for what I have. She told me about who she has helped in the pass years and how unfortunate they are. If there is an opportunity for helping someone or to volunteer, I have learned to not wait and think someone else will help that person or other people will volunteer.
