The Power of One Project
In Cultural Studies class, we study the Holocaust. We see that human behavior can lead to devastating events. We study the psychology of bystanding and try to understand the complex factors that lead to being a bystander.
We also see how an act of courage or bravery by one person can truly change the trajectory of history.
The Power of One project asks students to go out into their own communities and find someone who is an upstander: someone who refuses to stand idly by, and instead does something to help make the world a better place.
Students interview their chosen upstander and create a metaphorical exhibit that reflects the work of the upstander. In a typical year, we host a museum experience where parents, friends, upstanders and community members come together to honor the students and upstanders’ work. Because we cannot gather this year, each student has created a website to honor their upstander and share with the community their journey through the project.
We hope you enjoy learning more about these magnificent change makers, as well as the incredible class of 2026!
